Ontario Election Spending Act: Tips and Guidelines
The Election Finances Act (the Act) governs election spending and fundraising rules for provincial elections. It outlines eligible contributions, limits for contributions, and administrative penalties for contravention of the Act. While it is important to understand the limitations imposed by the Act, this document will outline what possible election actions faculty associations (FAs) may undertake, and some best practices to illustrate effective election advocacy.
Although OCUFA is a non-partisan organization, our member organizations are not. Because of this, our member organizations can make political statements and endorsements if they choose to. The Act provides guidance on how much can be spent on political advertising, the timeframes and limitations, as well as how to report any relevant spending.
