Statement on the passing of Doug Lorimer
With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of Doug Lorimer, a dedicated leader, staunch advocate, and a distinguished contributor to the OCUFA Collective Bargaining Committee. His lifelong devotion to fairness, solidarity, and equity profoundly shaped our community, and his loss will be deeply felt.
Doug fought persistently for better wages, improved working conditions, and the dignity of faculty members. Alongside his wife, Joyce, he exemplified the power of collective action, demonstrating that strength is found in unity.
Both Doug and Joyce’s contributions were recognized by OCUFA. The Lorimer Collective Bargaining Award was established in honour of Joyce and Doug and was instituted to recognize outstanding contributions to improving the terms and conditions of employment of Ontario university faculty through bargaining.
Doug’s influence will live on through those he inspired. As we grieve, we also honor his remarkable legacy and unwavering commitment to justice.
