OCUFA Activities
GOVERNMENT AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS:
To accomplish its objectives OCUFA regularly meets with:
- the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities
- Cabinet Ministers and MPP’s
- Senior Civil Servants
- the Education Critics and Members of the Opposition Parties
- other appropriate government agencies
- the Council of Ontario University, the Canadian Federation of Students,the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance and organizations representing university employees
MEDIA AND PUBLIC RELATIONS:
OCUFA promotes issues of concern to the organization through an extensive internal and external communications plan
COLLECTIVE BARGAINING:
OCUFA provides timely statistical and research information for faculty negotiating purposes; sponsors workshops on an annual basis.
INFORMATION AND OTHER SERVICES
To assist member associations in furthering the professional and academic interests of their members, OCUFA:
- compiles and publishes data on economic benefits and university funding
- facilitates the exchange of information among negotiating committees
- publishes research papers on trends in higher education
- compiles and provides information on local, provincial, and national access and equity initiatives
- sponsors and supports the work of its various committees
- produces Academic Matters, a publication which highlights issues of interest to the university community in Ontario, the rest of Canada and internationally
- recognizes merit in teaching and academic librarianship, collective bargaining, the advancement of women academic staff, and service to OCUFA through annual awards
- provides an annual scholarship, the Henry Mandelbaum Graduate Fellowship, to a meritorious graduate student at an Ontario university
- hosts annual conferences on topical higher education concerns
- liaises with other provincial faculty associations in Canada on issues of mutual concern
- works with the Canadian Association of University Teachers to ensure that services provided by the two organizations are complementary
