On October 29th, CUPE 3902 and the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) is hosting a town hall and panel discussion on the breakdown of the traditional model of academic employment and the rise of precarious academic labour. The event will be moderated by Michael Valpy and the panelists include Winnie Ng, Wayne Lewchuk and Ira Basen from CBC Radio. The event is part of Fair Employment Week.

The focus of the discussion will be: the origins of the shift away from the standard academic employment model and its effects on teaching, study and research; the challenges these changes pose to contract academic workers; and the racialized, gendered, and class dimensions that we need to consider when thinking through alternatives to, and/or policy fixes for, the difficult situation we are in.

The event will be held at 7pm in room 120, Galbraith Building,  35 St. George Street, University of Toronto. More details can be found at the event’s Facebook page.
