All contract faculty deserve job security, fair pay, and benefits. It’s time to deliver fairness for contract faculty and hire more full-time tenure-stream faculty. Together we can support good jobs on our campus.

That universities are being run as businesses becomes especially transparent in the hyper exploitation of contract instructors. A contract instructor can teach two full year courses (two terms) courses, or four half term courses and earn less than $30.K, while a faculty member can expect to earn $80K to $160K for the same course load. A regular instructor will likely earn $70 to $100K for teaching the same workload. Increasingly people rely on contract instruction as their primary income. There must be equity and parity in rates of pay and benefits for contract instructors.
