After close to 16 months without a contract, members of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology Faculty Association (UOITFA) have come to a tentative agreement with the university. Ratification voting will conclude Thursday.
“This has been a long and at times challenging process to reach a tentative agreement,” said UOITFA President Hannah Scott. “Our members have always put students first, championing their right to quality education. Ultimately this agreement was only possible because of the depth of commitment of UOITFA members to our students and our community.”
Going into this round of negotiations, UOIT had the highest student-to-faculty ratio in Canada at 53-to-1, while its professors had the third-lowest average salary in Ontario.
At the University of Windsor, negotiators have reached a tentative agreement, averting a strike. The details of the agreement will be released upon ratification. University of Windsor Faculty Association members have been without a contract since June 30.
At Wilfrid Laurier University, the parties have exchanged their full packages of proposals for a new collective agreement for the full-time faculty.
The newly certified unit at Brescia will begin negotiations November 15 for its first collective agreement as a certified trade union. Talks are also scheduled for December 8 and 15.
The next date for mediation at the Ontario College of Art and Design University is November 5. OCADU faculty are entering their second year without a contract.
